I now want to know why Tom responded to that ad! Was he unable to find any other roommates? Or was he simply optimistic enough that he did not mind the conditions of the agreement?

Frustrated that his flawless ad was getting no response, Loki contacted the Craigslist staff and used his persuasive silver tongue to convince them to take down the other roommate ads. 

All of them.

Arguments included, “These people don’t even deserve to be roommates,” and “This one cannot even use correct grammar and spelling!”

Tom went searching for a roommate soon after.

Ever the optimist.

For the record, he doesn’t kneel to Loki. Loki wanted to kick him out for that but then realized that he’d have no other way to pay for the rent.  So he puts up with Tom’s insolence.
